CreativeFusion24_9

March 15 - April 4

Reception & Award Ceremony: Friday, April 4, 5:00-7:00 PM

Voting for People's choice awards starts on the first day of the exhibit and ends at 5:30 during the closing reception.

Awards will be announced at 5:30pm.

This annual exhibit brings together Chico's young, creative talent. Every year, our secondary school Art Teachers are tasked with selecting their student's most expressive and skillful artworks and preparing their work for exhibition. This is the only exhibit in our area to display the formative, 8 year span of our youth's creative development. Please join in celebrating creative minds at work in arts education.

18 $50 and $25 cash prizes are awarded thanks to the generous sponsorship by Pennie Baxter and Terese Gisske, Lisa and Jon Freeman-Wood and Made in Chico.

January-February 2025 | Member Appreciation

January 1, 2025 By Cameron Kelly

member25_sq

Our member’s love lifts us higher! In appreciation, CAC invites each member to exhibit one artwork that explores all types of love; including love of form, platonic love, self-love, parental love, and romantic love. The exhibit shares its title with the pivotal text by author bell hooks, All About Love: New Visions, in which love is an active process made real by “practitioners of love”, rooted in healing, carving a path towards collective liberation.

Reception: Friday, February 14, 5-7pm

This exhibition is generously sponsored by CAC Member Cris Guenter.

Community Altars Exhibit

Exhibit: Nov. 9 - Dec. 6, 2024 in conjunction with the Small Works Exhibit
Reception & Maker Market: Saturday, November 16, 12-4PM

CALL FOR ALTARS
Install: November 5-8, during gallery hours 12:00 - 4:00pm

In the spirit of El Dia de los Muertos ofrendas, artists and community members create altars that remember those that have passed and recognize life-saving organizations that serve the community.

Ofrendas are altars that leave offerings to entice the spirits back for a visit from the spirit world. The elements of the ofrenda stem from the idea of celebration of death in life. Each element and level have significance that you can read about here. You are invited to create altar with a  community minded theme. For example, if you want to remember your aunt, your altar could be dedicated to families. Your aunt's picture can be displayed on a shelf with ofrendas or offerings of things that she loved, like foods, drinks, flowers, incense, stones, etc. On the wall label, a local or national social services organization that relates to your loved ones interests can be dedicated their honor.

To reserve a 10 ft. tall x 4 ft. wide wall space, please email gallerydirectorcac@gmail.com, subject: Reserve an Altar Space

Take Down Altars: Saturday - Sunday, December 7-8, from Noon-4:00pm

Train Depot Expansion

August 6, 2024 By Cameron Kelly

Train Depot Expansion

We have officially signed a lease with the City of Chico to take over the additional spaces on the south end of the historic Southern Pacific Railroad depot, which has been vacant for many years. This expansion will allow Chico Art Center to offer more arts-related opportunities to its members and the broader community.

One of the spaces is being renovated for the Digital Arts Lab. We are collecting donated equipment and planning a full program of classes where you can learn to digitally sketch and paint, to use software for photo editing, design and publishing, to develop skills in promotion and social media and much more.

A new website exclusively for our digital arts lab is under development.

One space is being built into an annex gallery that can be rented by artists for visual and performing arts events.

Renovation has begun. If you'd like to help fund the renovation, make a donation here.
