A significant reason oil painting enjoys universal popularity and has been proven to be timeless is that it’s so versatile. There are a lot of ways to create an oil painting and there is a myriad of techniques for the oil painter to employ to accomplish their goals. Oil painting accommodates any artist, regardless if they want to create a realistic painting or abstract expressionistic work. The very simple fact that oil is a slow drying medium gives the artist time to make changes and corrections. Even more importantly, oil provides time to develop ideas and discover new ones while a painting is in progress.
The purpose of this class is to help those who want to become more familiar with the materials and techniques of oil painting. Today we can utilize safe practices which we will discuss and practice in class. Each week there will be optional, home challenges followed by in-class critiques. You will be introduced to contemporary oil painters. Simple drawing methods will be discussed and demonstrated to assist artists in achieving their personal painting goals. The objective is to give each artists a solid foundation to develop and create their own personal style. Some materials will be provided by the instructor.
Cost of each additional session: $145 and is due the first day of class or before.

PERSPECTIVE FOR ARTISTS
Perspective techniques are used by artists to create the realistic impression of depth in their drawings and paintings. Because it's a difficult subject many artists have never learned, have trouble with, or have chosen to ignore it altogether. This is your chance to learn the techniques of perspective in an easy, fun way. Learn to see the world as an artist sees it. All that's required is a pencil, eraser, ruler, some inexpensive paper, and your sense of humor.
This is a FREE online class over Zoom. To register and ask questions, contact Dick Kennedy at dkartguy@yahoo.com. A link will be emailed to you before the first day's class.

DRAWING IN 3 DIMENSIONS
Paper is a two dimensional surface. The lines you draw on it are flat and two dimensional. In order to give the appearance of three dimensional images on your paper you need to create an illusion. Relax and have fun while learning to apply the art fundamentals that will add that third dimension to your drawings. All that's required is a pencil, eraser, some inexpensive paper, and your sense of humor.
This is a FREE online class over zoom. To register and ask questions, contact Dick Kennedy at dkartguy@yahoo.com. A link will be emailed to you before the first day's class.
Instructor Bio: Retired graphic designer and illustrator Dick Kennedy received his art degree at Michigan State University before moving to Chico in 1975. He worked as a production artist at Quadco Printing and as art director at Advertising Associates before running his own freelance graphics business.

RENT A ROOM
INSTRUCTION
Have you ever thought of sharing your art talents with others? The Chico Art Center is now opening its two rooms to artists wishing to rent a classroom for instruction. Due to the nature of the more restrictive AB-5 laws governing casual workers, the Center has had to set up new guidelines for classroom use. The Art Center classrooms are available for rent on a monthly or hourly basis. This allows you to have a one-time workshop or an ongoing class over a number of weeks. As the instructor, you pick your schedule, the artistic talents you would like to share, and set class costs. New responsibilities for instructors include recruiting students and collecting payment. We will assist you by listing your class offerings in our monthly newsletter and on our website.
OPEN & PRIVATE GROUPS
As the contact for a group, you may rent a room for a private group of artists or for an open studio group that invites artists to join. See a list of current open studio groups below.
