Artist Statement
My childhood fascination with color and pattern are visible in the structural rhythms of my paintings today. I can vividly recall the kitchen cabinet scallops, the stripes of a white picket fence and the diamonds of a chain link fence. Coming of age during the heyday of Op and Pop art and my first exposure to modern art bolstered my fascination.
I am influenced by the abstract art movements that focus on surface pattern and color placement. In my art making process, I work on merging techniques of surface iteration.
My paintings invite participation because of their patterns, form, color and texture. As a result, my paintings work like jazz, stirring feelings without narration.
